« Back to careers

Who are we looking for?

We're looking for a keen and enthusiastic mid-weight front end developer. Ideally you will have at least 2 years of experience in a digital agency or similar environment.

You will have developed high-quality, engaging interactive work using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and other existing and emerging web technologies. You will have a keen and attentive eye for detail and quality, and will certainly be no stranger to good design.

Last, but most certainly not least, you must be keen to learn and full of positive energy.

The role

You will be working closely with our designers and user experience architects to build web and mobile-based applications for our diverse selection of clients. You will use development skills and knowledge of accessibility and browser testing to ensure that every user has a great experience on the sites we design.

In addition to helping maintain our existing portfolio, you will be working on new projects for our clients, collaborating and liaising with other teams to assess the technical feasibility of projects and providing genuine creative input before realising them for the web.

You will be expected to keep up with the latest developments from the wonderful world of the web – you'll be eager to experiment with new technologies and help push forward our service offering.

Your skills

We're looking for a strong mix of creative and development skills, and would expect you to be able to tick most or all of these boxes:

  • Confident at writing standards-compliant CSS and HTML
  • Some experience working with CSS 3.0, HTML 5, XHTML 1.1
  • Good understanding of JavaScript frameworks, such as jQuery, for animation, AJAX and DOM manipulation
  • Ability to write JavaScript from scratch
  • Knowledge of web accessibility, including WCAG2
  • Good understanding of version control, such as Subversion
  • Some experience of working with ASP.Net projects
  • Ability to produce HTML emails that work in common mail/webmail clients
  • Experience with APIs such as Facebook, Twitter and Google Maps
  • Dislike of hacks – preferring well written code over quick fixes
  • Strong emphasis on usability best practices
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas succinctly

Nice to have

It'd be great, but not essential, if you could boast a few of the following amongst your skills:

  • Knowledge of SEO principles
  • Experience with Sitecore, Umbraco or other CMS platforms
  • Experience with mobile development for Android or iOS (or knowledge of Phonegap or other development frameworks)
  • Familiarity with web.config files and IIS 6 or IIS 7
  • Experience with mobile JavaScript libraries, such as XUI or Zepto
  • Understanding of CSS libraries, such as dot-less
  • Ability to create .Net Pages, Master pages, User Controls
  • Ability to use .Net control library (e.g. forms)

If you think you'd be a good fit, we've love to hear from you. If you have a portfolio site or similar which you can easily share with us, that'd really help us judge the quality of your work.
